Big Mouth is mounting our biggest presentation to-date: the Gonzales Cantata, right before the election season. It is time for us to talk to and encourage one another in the presence of beautiful, inspiring, and hilarious music.
The Gonzales Cantata is a neo-baroque cantata based on the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales composed by Australian-American composer Melissa Dunphy. The libretto is taken directly from transcripts of the hearings and Mr. Gonzales’ resignation speech. The genders of the soloists have been reversed in relation to the characters they portray – sopranos sing Gonzales, Sen. Arlen Specter and Sen. Patrick Leahy, Orrin Hatch is sung by an alto, and Dianne Feinstein is a tenor. The Gonzales Cantata is scored for a choir with soloists, string orchestra and harpsichord. The sound of the cantata is something between PDQ Bach and Phil Kline.
We are excited to present you with an all-star lineup of soloists and fantastic ensemble with singers and instrumentalists from Curious Voices, and students from Willamette University and Reed College.
Big Mouth will be offering all our tickets to the general public on a "pay-as-you-can" basis. We encourage audiences to pay a ticket price equivalent to their hourly wage.
Together, we have power. Together, we can change the course. Come, laugh, and be inspired!
