How does one reconcile a desire for a familiar holiday ritual, rooted in beauty, inspiration, and joy, and the longing for a more inclusive, multicultural, and secular experience?
Many fans of concert music rave about the Lessons and Carols tradition from the Anglican church, a beautiful ritual of candlelight, songs, readings, and communal singing. For this holiday season, Big Mouth Society is offering a multilingual and cross-cultural version of this beautiful tradition. There will be inspirational readings (in many tongues) about love, nature, compassion, and the environment, interspersed with beautiful music from around the world, familiar music for all to sing aloud, and the chance to meditate and renew our spirits by candlelight.
Our ancestors used the bond of ritual to create ties of kinship necessary for survival in a world rife with danger and uncertainty. Let’s make a new tradition and bind ourselves together with love.
